Autism Accreditation

Oak View School have renewed their National Autistic Society Autism Accreditation status, which the school has held since 2008.

On this occasion we are very proud to say that the school was awarded the Advanced Level and the Awarding Committee congratulated the school on its “excellence in supporting autistic young people.”

The decision by the awarding committee was based on a two day visit by two Assessors to the school in February 2024. They observed in classes as well as meeting with pupils, staff, the leadership team and parents. Pupils and parents also completed surveys about their experience of the school.

The Assessors particularly noted:

“The overwhelming majority of observed practice was excellent in terms of how the expressive and receptive communication of autistic pupils was supported and of an exemplary standard.”

“Learning activities were made motivating and fun and it was clear that individualised pathway goals were woven into the learning activities”

“Relationships between staff and students is outstanding. There is a lot of evident respect from the staff to the students in the way they speak and negotiate.”

The school is very proud of this achievement as it recognises the school’s excellent practice. This practice extends beyond those young people with autism to the whole school community.
