Therapies

The school uses a number of therapies and therapists to enhance the pupils learning and well-being.

These include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Music therapy
  • Speech and Language therapy

In most cases, these therapists are commissioned by the Local Authority to support individual pupil's provision.

Specialist Occupational Therapists - Sensory Integration

 

 

Provided by Jumpstart Therapy Centre 

Sensory integration is a set of physical activities that help a child with sensory processing difficulties. These are tailored to each pupil and take place in class, in the S.I. rooms or around the school. These activities help a child become settled and ready to learn.

Speech and Language Therapy

 

Provided by Kara Jones & HCRG

KaraJones Communication Therapy and HCRG provide a holistic, whole school approach to supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, supporting the development of communication friendly environments and embedding core strategies into everyday teaching. There are 3 offers, dependent on the pupil's allocated SALT hours within their EHCP;
Universal Offer

Those with no input specified in EHCP’s 


Strategies for these children will be supported through twice termly meetings and through our classroom provision. In particular we will be further looking to develop the focus on SCERTS priorities and strategies for these pupils.

Targeted Offer

Those with up to 18 hours of speech and language therapy a year identified in their EHCP. 


The Speech and Language Therapists will provide Aims and Outcomes for these pupils.

Specialist Offer Speech and Language Therapy specified in the EHCP and their provision is additional to the universal and targeted support. 

 

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

 Provided by HCRG

Some of our pupil's have physical challenges or a need for physiotherapy. Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists work with our pupils, assess them, provide equipment and advise staff on how to work with pupils.

Music Therapy

Music therapy sessions are individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each student, incorporating various musical activities such as playing instruments, singing and improvisation. These activities are designed to encourage emotional expression, enhance communication, and include social interaction. For non-verbal students and students with communication difficulties, their innate ability to engage with music can open new avenues of expression and can support with emotional expression.

 The service is offered both in individual and group format. By offering this service on-site, Oak View School ensures that students have convenient access to music therapy. Individual and small group sessions are offered in the schools music therapy room and larger groups within the classroom, providing flexible and accessible options for students.

Trauma Perspective Practice (TPP)

Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) is the Essex approach to understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing. All staff at Oak View have TPP training and our staff support to deliver training across our multi-academy trust (Epping Forest Schools, Partnership Trust).

We aim to support every pupil’s well-being and mental health. The TPP approach is to understand behaviour and support well-being, using the values of Compassion, Kindness, Hope, Connection and Belonging and is embedded in our school systems and practice.
